Our Story
Randy is a US Navy Veteran and Event Producer. Krissie's a Certified Paralegal, Certified Special Event Professional (CSEP), Meeting Manager, and a sought after event designer/producer. In 2020, the LIVE Events community was hit hard by the Covid-19 Pandemic, cancelling every event, ultimately decimating our 20 + year multi award winning event production company.
We didn't know much, but we knew a few things... We love to cook. We love to eat! We love to make people smile!
In 2017, we watched the Forks Over Knives film. Being sick of being overweight & feeling like crap, we changed to a plant based, Vegan diet with amazing results. But in 2020, like many people in quarantine, we were going out of our minds.
We began cooking all the comfort foods we used to love eating on the Boardwalk, putting a plant based twist on it.
Going “Down the Shore”, was a family tradition for Krissie. For 9 years leading up to the Pandemic, we had been dual residents of both Ocean City, NJ and Havertown, PA. We also spent a lot of time producing events at the Atlantic City Casinos which led to more time spent together during those late night walks along the Boardwalk. But our world came crashing down. Between losing so much, the quarantine, and travel restrictions, it seemed impossible to enjoy life as we knew it.
One day, our great friend and colleague who owns a catering company decided to open a drive in movie theater as a pivot since all of his events cancelled as well.
We traded his food truck for our Hollywood Searchlights for the summer. Not knowing what to do with a food truck, we spent weeks thinking about it and sanitizing to make it VEGAN thinking we would make vegan burgers and fries as we waited for events to return to normal.
We stumbled on a pizza shop for rent in Havertown a few blocks from home. After hearing our story, the incredible owner helped get us going. No one ever used the magic food truck, but a much greater concept came to life because of it. We recalled we had been cooking vegan Boardwalk style foods at home. The Boardwalk makes us happy. The Boardwalk makes other people happy. The sights, the sounds, the smells, the food, the feeling of nostalgia and memories of generations making memories, all brings smiles to peoples’ faces. This is what we have done for well over two decades.
Coming from producing luxury weddings and events in FIVE STAR Ballrooms and Venues across the east coast, we decided to try something new, putting our hospitality expertise and passion for people and food, into cooking for others during Quarantine.
Friends, family, colleagues, and competitors all jumped in to help.
With so many people who did not want to travel in the midst of the pandemic, and a somber cloud pulling the joy out of the lives we were so used to living, we wanted to create something happy for the community and ourselves. With no plan, no money, and no experience, we dove in. Boardwalk Vegan was born.
Now we have a FABULOUS Boardwalk Vegan Family committed to creating and serving fresh, delicious, luxury VEGAN comfort food and healthy alternatives. We can sure use that magic food truck now!!
